The annual show has become a must-see event, functioning as a showcase for living musical history. The Ponderosa Stomp exists to acknowledge, pay tribute to, and teach the cultural significance of the unsung heroes and heroines of rock-n-roll, rhythm & blues and other forms of American roots music. The Stomp began when a group of like-minded friends began presenting shows at a small club; it has evolved into a multi-faceted musical, cultural and educational juggernaut. Events in New Orleans every spring include two jam-packed nights of music, a conference and symposium, film festival, record hop and now, a museum exhibit. Unsung Heroes: The Secret History of Louisiana Rock & Roll is currently on display at the Louisiana State Museum in the historic Cabildo in the heart of the French Quarter, running through May 2010.

Australia's Sneaky Sound System
With a debut album that's gone twice platinum and a single ("I Love It"), that had the longest chart run in Australian history - perhaps someone might want to see what the fuss is all about?
US DATES
June 17 - LIV (Fontainbleau) - Miami, FL
June 18 - The Church - Denver, CO
June 19 - Celebrities - Vancouver
June 20 - SPIN - San Diego, CA
June 23 - Cinespace - Los Angeles, CA
June 24 - Abbey Pub - Chicago, IL
June 25 - Tattoo - Toronto
June 26 - Webster Hall (GBH & Webster Hall Presents) - New York, NY
Sneaky Sound System are Sydney trio Miss Connie (Connie Mitchell), Black Angus (Angus McDonald), and MC Double D (Daimon Downey}.
The press bio:
Their story began back in 2000 when Daimon met Angus at a fancy dress party and stole the flute from his mariachi costume. They became friends and decided to start a club on the quietest night of the week. Angus spun tunes and Daimon hyped on the mic. It wasn’t some trendy minimal techno joint, but unpretentious hands in the air fun, “no shoe-gazing, no wallflowers,” as Angus describes it. Still going strong seven years later, it packs in around 1000 people each Sunday, and guests have included Tiga, LCD’s James Murphy, Mylo and Hot Chip.
“I got fired from my job after that first Sneaky night,” Daimon recalls, “because we had such a good time I didn’t go to work the next day. Angus was in publishing and was made redundant the next week. We thought, ‘Fuck it, let’s keep doing this and see how far we can go’,”
Angus had long had musical aspirations. He spent time in New York as a singer-songwriter followed by four years in London developing his DJ skills on the club scene. Daimon, meanwhile, was born in South Africa and raised in the tiny rural town of Bellingen on Australia’s east coast. He came to Sydney to be an artist but ended up a barman. Once Sneaky Sundays was up and running, however, everything changed.
In 2003 Sony asked them to put together a mix CD. The result was ‘Other Peoples Music’, a housey affair that ran into edgier territory such as Gonzales and Metro Area, occasionally overlaid with live instrumentation and Daimon’s rapping. It was a success and before long the pair tried their hand at their own music. The third piece of the Sneaky jigsaw was about to fall into place.
For five years since leaving school Connie Mitchell had been in reasonably successful industrial rock band Primary but after they split, she was at a loose end. One day, as she sat in a park playing guitar to a friend, Angus and Daimon happened by and asked her to sing for them.
“I thought they were a bit dodgy,” recollects Connie, “You know, two guys coming up to you, excited, jumping around a bit, saying ‘Come to our studio’.”
They did, however, have a recording set up - Whack Studios - and when Connie sang through what was to be their breakthrough single, the contagious dance-pop of ‘I Love It’, Sneaky Sound System had their vocalist. Within days, they’d laid down vocals to their eponymous debut album which, as Angus says, “has one foot in the clubs and one foot in the pop world.” The industry, however, was not convinced.
“We were told by every label we might sell 10,000 copies and it wasn’t worth it,” says Angus, “so we decided to do it ourselves.”
Setting up their own label, Whack Records, they did exactly that with slow-burning but spectacular results. Strangely though, ‘UFO’, their catchiest song of all, was almost an afterthought. Angus wrote the music and chorus – “I saw a UFO and nobody believes me” - in two minutes after watching a National Geographic programme about flying saucers. The next day Connie attended to the verses; she, after all, could relate to the subject matter, having once been abducted by aliens. One night putting a few pieces of washing out on the line to dry…
“I heard this buzzing sound like a swarm of flies moving from left to right,” she remembers, “I looked in the sky and saw three white lights doing super-quick triangular movements. When I came back in everybody said, ‘Where have you been?’ I looked at my watch and I’d lost 40 minutes about which I have no recollection.”
Almost as worrying was suddenly playing in nightclubs. Primary had only ever played pubs and venues. “I’d never been in a club before,” she giggles, “It’s a completely different world, it’s mayhem, isn’t it?”
Sneaky Sound System were soon bona-fide pop stars, recognized in the street or, in Connie’s case, having to pose for a fan photo when she’d popped out in her pyjamas to buy a pint of milk. The recognition also resulted in her making prestigious guest appearances on albums by Kanye West and Snoop Dogg. A whirlwind of Sneaky tours began with a full band, initially a completely sold out run of dates at home and then all over the world. Appropriately, they even popped into Ibiza. “That is one messed up place, I don’t know how they get away with it,” says Daimon, “The loneliest, quietest place on earth is the airport departure lounge in Ibiza...”
At home they toured with the aforementioned Robbie Williams, Jamiroquai and, perhaps the group they have most in common with, The Scissor Sisters.
“They knew the words to some of our songs and, on our first date together, stood on the side of the stage cheering us on,” laughs Daimon, “Jake Shears had been recording with Kylie Minogue and apparently they were obsessed with our song ‘Pictures’.”
Now Sneaky have finished their second album, working with Spike Stent of Madonna and Gwen Stefani fame. For world release, it will be compiled with the best of their debut and released in September 2008. Like the Scissor Sisters, they’re a pop band whose heart lies in the swirling giddy party attitude of club culture. And like all the best pop bands, they’re a team of distinct personalities and roles. Black Angus, named after a corrupt copper from Oz TV series ‘Blue Murder’, is the musical dynamo, MC Double D is the flamboyant showman with a mic – “Better to be looked over than overlooked,” he says - and Connie, the quirky front woman whose hobbies include fast cars and robot-building, is quite the opposite of a diva. In a time of predictable R&B dross and Luddite indie bands, it’s refreshing to be presented with an ebullient outfit overflowing with such hooky choruses and colourful character.

Los Amigos Invisibles On Tour
Los Amigos Invisibles album, Commercial, now available via iTunes; and available everywhere June 9th.
Live:
6/20: Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club
6/23: New York, NY @ Nublu (CD Release Show)
7/10: Brooklyn, NY @ Prospect Park (LAMC/Celebrate Brooklyn)
7/12: Philadelphia, PA @ World Café Live
8/5: Anaheim, CA @ House of Blues
8/6: San Diego, CA @ House of Blues
8/7: Los Angeles, CA @ House Of Blues Sunset Strip
8/8: San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore
10/2: Austin, TX @ Austin City Limits Festiva
Primary songwriter, Jose Luis Pardo, breaks down several tracks on Commercial giving insight to the album:
Mentiras
Mauricio and I wrote this track thinking of an 80s era funk song a la Prince or even LCD Soundsystem. The idea for the lyrics came from a couple pictures that some bartenders in the Dominican Republic took of us really wasted after a gig on the beach. The pictures made it to one of those party websites and it only took 20 minutes for our wives to find them. So, we were both like... “That is not me, I swear! I was at the hotel sleeping!”
Vivire Para Ti (feat. Natalia Lafourcade)
This is our tribute to the Salsoul Orchestra. We wanted to make a straight-up disco track that also had mellow and funky feel. After we made it and Everhard Paredes recorded the strings (one violin, like 10 channels), we felt that we needed some Hispanic Jocelyn Brown to take it to the top. We have been huge fans of Natalia Lafourcade since we first listened to her. So I contacted her, offered to clean her house if she did some vocals and she came back with some wonderful arrangements that took the track far beyond our expectations.
Burundanga
When we started touring the U.S., we were embraced by a scene that Americans call the "jam band crowd". People from all ages, all nationalities that love to dance, to get down, to trip out and have fun with bands that usually go under-the-radar of mass media. This track is to thank them for so many great gigs. We wanted to keep paying our tribute to Fela. So there’s a drug that is being used in Venezuela to assault people, it’s called burundanga. You touch this powder (it could even be on a flyer in the street) and you instantly go on psychedelic trip, the robbers take you to ATMs, your house and you do nothing but please them. I know - insane!

Wild Beasts To Release New Album
"Wild Beasts singer Hayden Thorpe can conjure extraordinary melodrama with his voice, as he sings in high, clear tones and stretches his range into a growl with equal finesse. All the while, the rest of the band wraps his fragile, aching phrases in clean guitars and tip-toed drums. It could easily come off as overly posed or mannered, but in the English group's short career, it's already demonstrated an instinct to push past easy uses of its gifts, through both wild experimentation and subtle restraint." -- NPR.org
Wild beasts release their second album, Two Dancers Septemeber 8 on Domino Records. The album which was recorded live, is said to include references to "booty calls, puckered lips, bodies as perfect machines, and dim-lit streets."

Lullatone Will Rock Your Baby
MP3: "A Mobile Over Your Bed" -
http://www.forcefieldpr.com/lullatonemobile.mp3
Make Your Own Lullatone Song: The Lullatone Melody Maker -
http://www.lullatone.com/news/raindrop-melody-maker-2/
Bio: Lullatone is Shawn James Seymour and Yoshimi Seymour from Nagoya, Japan who have been releasing conceptual pop albums since 2002, displaying artwork, touring the world, and even hosting a Japanese children's TV program. Lullatone began out of necessity when Shawn Seymour was schooling in Japan and could only travel with his portable Casio SK-1 keyboard, sampling sine tones, he crafted quiet pop tunes in the apartment to not wake Yoshimi; now his now wife and vocalist for the band, as she was sleeping.
Press Release: Songs That Spin in Circles is their sixth album and will be released via Audio Dregs and furthers the concept of sleep-worthy pop hits as a "music for babies" concept album. Demos for the tracks were begun by Shawn while he was waiting in the hospital for the newest "band member", Niko, to be born. Niko soon went to work testing the advantages of the new songs in helping take him into dreamland. The album features a high level of sound science to ensure ultimate effectiveness in snooze inducing. Underwater recordings, heartbeats as drumbeats, and tape hiss as ambient white noise are just the beginning of the shuteye science the duo employed to create their most careful concept album to date. Imagine Calder making sound pieces instead of mobile sculptures or a Raymond Scott's Soothing Sounds for Babies, that babies actually enjoyed. Perhaps if Brian Eno had made a Music for Airports For Babies it would sound like this. Or Sigur Ros on Nyquil? Beck has said that he played Lullatone songs in the past to his infant son and Momus has dubbed them "the cutest formalists in town."

In 2006, The Lovely Feathers – Mark Kupfert, Mark Shortt, Richard Yanofsky, David Buzaglo and Ted Suss – released their debut album Hind Hind Legs . The band received raves from Pitchfork, SPIN, and Rolling Stone. Metric tapped the band to join them on a world tour. After the road, and a love spell from Cupid, the band took an “indefinite hiatus.” But they return in full force with what they hope will be an effort worth the wait. For this new release, the band "experimented with low cost tape recordings, transformed dining rooms into recording studios, and wrote music at anytime, anywhere."
