Suburban Gothic Coming to VOD Itunes & Theaters

File under: Can a freak get a review copy already? For those who've been waiting on tenterhooks for a wide release of Suburban Gothic by director Richard bates Jr. (Excision), a date has finally been announced for the video on demand (VOD) release. Film Buff has added the film to its roster and will be available January 30 2015 for on demand audiences. Additionally it has been reported the film will see American theaters and itunes beginning January 15. I've been blogging this title for over a year and was unable to attend the Canadian premiere. Once again the film written by Richard Bates Jr. and Mark Bruner, stars Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds), Kat Dennings (Two Broke Girls), Ray Wise (Twin Peaks), Sally Kirkland (Anna), Mackenzie Philips (So Weird, One Day at a Time) and Baltimore's king of bad taste, and director of one of my favorite films Female Trouble - John Waters.

The Best of 2014

Thisismyhappening Presents Kaye Telle's Best of 2014 The Muffs, Whoop De Doo: 100% satisfaction guaranteed with this album. TRS-80, Volume One: A great compilation of remastered early works by a fantastic electronic band. Jack White, Lazaretto: A terrific album with phenomenal, record-setting vinyl format bells and whistles. OFF!, Wasted Years: It gave us the gold standard for punk rock and more recently, some pretty excellent videos, too. Omnivore Recordings: They recently announced the imminent release of two Jellyfish reissues with new liners and over 50 tracks. Pee Wee Herman: He’s back and making his presence known on social media and television. Pee Wee’s Playhouse was remastered and the news of that long-awaited movie seems very promising. The Walking Dead: It continues to set the standard for good television. From the premiere to the mid-season finale, I think this has been my favorite season. David Bowie Is, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Illinois: A staggering amount of memorabilia and information with backing audio, providing even the most ardent fan some surprises. Dolenz Jones Boyce & Hart reissue from Cherry Red: A must have for any die-hard Monkees fan and a better bet than most of the band’s later recordings. The Grand Budapest Hotel by director Wes Anderson was my favorite film of the year and a friggin' quirky masterpiece. And lastly the perfect little confection, Lindt Lindor Truffles Coconut. I love you. I hate you. You must be consumed in mass quantities. Buy some for stocking stuffers at Lindt Chocolates.

Life Without Music? Amusia: The inability to recognize musical tones or to reproduce them.

Some people are born without the ability to hear music. According to the BBC "Though most amusia sufferers find listening to music pointless, some even find it annoying and unpleasant." Amusia: The inability to recognize musical tones or to reproduce them. Amusia can be congenital (present at birth) or be acquired sometime later in life (as from brain damage). Amusia is composed of a- + -musia and literally means the lack of music. Also commonly called tone deafness. Here's a well done informative short video Can You Follow This Beat? by BrainCraft.

John Waters to Screen Pink Flamingos Sequel

According to artnews.com as reported by M.H. Miller, John Waters will screen a sequel to his camp classic Pink Flamingos called Kiddie Flamingos at his upcoming Marianne Boesky Gallery exhibition which opens on January 9, 2015. Of course with the absence of Diving, casting was an issue - so Waters has recreated and recast the first new film since 2004's A Dirty Shame/i> as a children’s movie. With child actors as a consideration, Waters material was “defanged and desexualized,” according to the gallery, which also describes this G-rated version as “more perverse than the original.” The show, Waters third with Marianne Boesky, will run January 9, 2015 through February 14, 2015.

Calling All Power Pop Fans: Jellyfish Reissues

As someone who owns thousands of albums I can easily say that those by Jellyfish are among my favorite and most played. I can't recommend these reissues strongly enough for their excellent musicianship, insanely catchy hooks and intricate harmnonies. This is also your chance to score great extras, particularly if you do not own the long out of print box set. The expanded deluxe CD editions of Bellybutton and Spilt Milk are available from Omnivore January 20, 2015 in North America. But please don't let that discourage you from buying them for your favorite music lover for Christmas, simply wrap a box and include a photocopy of the cd cover with a note that says you're giving them the gift that can't miss - Jellyfish! The press release: JELLYFISH’S BELLYBUTTON AND SPILT MILK, TO BE REISSUED ON OMNIVORE AS DELUXE TWO-CD SETS JANUARY 20, 2015 Remastered for first time, and featuring a staggering 51 bonus tracks LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Indie pop-rockers Jellyfish only released two albums in their short existence. Following Omnivore Recordings’ vinyl reissues of those titles in 2012, the Jellyfish Army has been reawakened and re-energized. Three never-before-available albums — Live at Bogart’s, Stack-a-Tracks, and Radio Jellyfish —helped keep the legacy alive. The story now comes full circle with the expanded deluxe CD editions of Bellybutton and Spilt Milk, available from Omnivore on January 20, 2015 in North America. Both titles have been expanded to two discs and include the original albums in their entirety fortified with a colossal 51 bonus tracks spread among the packages. With tracks from the demos to the albums to the tours, these releases are the ultimate Jellyfish experience. Jellyfish’s 1994 debut, Bellybutton, has been remastered for the first time for the deluxe reissue. The full-length is joined on the first CD of the set by ten live performances recorded during that album’s tour. These tracks include Jellyfish originals, as well as covers of songs from Paul McCartney & Wings and The Archies. The second disc of the set is composed of demos — nine that would end up on Bellybutton and one eventually recorded for Spilt Milk, as well as others of which studio versions were never cut, and a cover of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch.” This disc will also be available digitally worldwide as The Bellybutton Demos on the same date. The band’s follow-up, Spilt Milk, is also treated to a revelatory remastering, with the first disc adding eight demos of songs considered for, but not recorded for the release. The second disc contains demos for the album tracks, four live performances from the tour, the last studio recording from the band (a cover of Harry Nilsson’s “Think About Your Troubles”), and a special message from Jellyfish recorded in the studio during the album’s creation and originally sent to fan club members. Both releases feature expanded artwork with photos and memorabilia. Essays from Ken Sharp (author of books on KISS, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Eric Carmen and more) incorporate new interviews with Andy Sturmer, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Jason Falkner from Jellyfish, as well as the albums’ producers. Sturmer and Manning also provide track-by-track commentary on the original album tracks. According to the band’s Roger Joseph Manning, Jr., “It's so great to have both albums remastered and available again. We know that the fans have been looking for the tracks that only appeared on a long out-of-print boxed set, so many of those outtakes, demos and live tracks have been added to make these expanded deluxe two-CD sets as comprehensive as possible.”

Todays Christmas Jam: The Pogues w/ Kirsty MacColl

Perhaps my favorite Christmas song, The Pogues Featuring Kirsty MacColl - "Fairytale Of New York." Perhaps today's choice says a lot about me. It's gorgeous and sad and cynical and wonderful, plus the video features Matt Dillon! "You're a bum You're a punk You're an old slut on junk Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed You scumbag, you maggot You cheap lousy faggot Happy Christmas your arse I pray God it's our last"

New Trailer for Red Windows

Here's a new trailer for the film Red Windows and a synopsis I found: "With evidence that her apartment is being invaded, Abby Mitchell, with little opportunity for escape, is convinced she is being watched from a quiet neighboring house where all the windows have been mysteriously covered with red fabric." I wish I had some more information, but have yet to hear from the PR contact. It looks promising for fans of Horror and Suspense. Enjoy!

Today's Happy Holiday Music: Redd Kross

It's gonna be a super sunny Christmas, I know. Enjoy some Redd Kross "Super Sunny Christmas "7" Single from the Australian label Insipid Vinyl (1991). and "Gnarly Christmas" and I couldn't find "Mary Christmas" on youtube, which is also groovy and appears on A Home For the Holidays Compilation.

New Horror: North Woods

ATTENTION OLD SCHOOL HORROR AND GRINDHOUSE FANS! GET READY TO CHECK OUT NORTH WOODS. Horror veterans Lynn Lowry (Shivers, The Crazies) and Debbie Rochon (Tromeo and Juliet, American Nightmare) star in North Woods, a motion picture of unrelenting terror. Inspired by the likes of Phantasm, The Evil Dead and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, North Woods aims to bring the grindhouse horror ethos to a modern setting. The film is directed by Chris Moore, who co-wrote the script with Jason Kasper and stars alongside Lowry and Rochon. The cast also includes fresh faces Sarah McCraw, Andrew Roach, Amanda Grussaute, Brittany Mahaffey and J.K. Michaels. "North Woods is the kind of horror film that people have been looking for," explains co-writer/editor Jason Kasper. "But it's also everything that they're not expecting. It genuinely feels like a '70s and '80s horror film in the way that it's executed, giving you a nostalgic familiarity. However, it takes the tropes and cliches of the genre and completely turns them on their heads." The teaser trailer: and a snippet of the beginning of the film: North Woods is in its final 48 hours of crowdfunding on Indiegogo here to raise money in order to complete production. To encourage last-minute donations, prices have been slashed. Backers can get autographs from Lowry and Rochon, a DVD, a poster and more in one package for as low as $15. Other perks up for grabs include screen-used props, producer credits and even percentages of the film's profits. Presented by Macabre Pictures and Flowtac Entertainment, North Woods will be released in 2015.
