Yeasayer will release their new single "Ambling Alp" November 3. It was a crowd pleaser at the Pitchfork Festivasl, as well as on their tour supporting Bat For Lashes. It's the first single from their new album Odd Blood, which will be released in February. The single will be released as a limited 12" vinyl featuring remixes by Memory Tapes and DJ /rupture. It will also be released digitally.

Getcher FREE Download Here: Star and Micey
I have one CD and several downloads to give away for the brand nee Star and Micey album, Star and Micey. Below you'll find a couple of videos to sample and a couple of reviews to see what the ever present "they" are saying. All you have to do is be among the first to comment on this post. And please be sure I have a way to contact you to have the label mail out the prize, or send a download code. (If you do not want your info published - no worries I'll gladly delete it and make sure you get your prize).
The self titled album from Memphis band Star and Micey was just released. It includes appearances by Jody Stephens (Big Star), Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars, The Black Crowes), and Rick Steff (Lucero, Cat Power).
What the press is saying:
“In the studio, magic happened - the band's self-titled debut is a
blend of Memphis soul, lo-fi indie rock and singer-songwriter
introspection. Cosby's wide-eyed optimism shines through like chips of
ice flecking a windowpane in the deep still of winter. With help from
Luther Dickinson of The Black Crowes and the North Mississippi
Allstars and Jody Stephens of the pioneering outfit Big Star, the band
has delivered a record that hums with unflappable faith.” – The Daily
Times
"What will you get from Star & Micey? Terrific folk-infused pop music
that’s melodic and infectious. Their tunes feel like intimate personal
missives, but the personal touch is always light and upbeat. These
guys are singing their blues and sending them out into the world, and
the song that emerges is worth checking out.” – Times of Acadiana

The Mighty Boosh Begin Work On New Film
According to BBC Newsbeat, Noel Fielding has said fans of The Mighty Boosh can expect new material in 2010. At the premiere of Bunny and the Bull, (a film by Boosh director Paul King, in which Fielding and Julian Barratt have small parts), Fielding delighted fans with a small tidbit of information. He was quoted as saying, "We're writing a film at the moment and an album, so hopefully next year. Both of those things." Beyond that Fielding is saying nothing, except about the subject of not spilling the beans, saying, "I've got to stop doing that. I've been stung too many times."
The other half of The Mighty Boosh's writing team, Julian Barratt expanded the news a bit revealing, "We've been very inspired by this [Bunny and the Bull] because we've been doing the show and touring a lot and we've finally got round to writing. We try and do, on TV, quite magical epic journeys and we thought if you're doing a film we should really do it in one room, basically just kind of a sitcom for 90 minutes. So we might do that. We might do exactly what we didn't do on TV."
The brilliant comedy partners have not gone their separate ways just yet, as has been feared by fans. Barrett confirmed the bond by stating, "We're still together. It's like we're twins, we're kind of symbiotically linked... if he drinks I get drunk. Like E.T. and Elliott."
In order to promote the paperback version of their new book, The Pocket Book of Boosh, the duo reportedly plan a sack race for fans in Glasgow. The hardcover version, The Mighty Book of Boosh is highly entertaining and well worth the money. I'm sure the "pocket book" will be the same, but, well, smaller.
The album and film are great news, as The Mighty Boosh over the past few years has become my favorite form of entertainment - period. I only wish the cast had done a proper live tour of The United States. Comicon was such a tease. The thought of seeing Old Greg live is almost to delightful to bear.

Andrew Belle and Ten out of Tenn
Andrew Belle (a Chicago and Nashville-based singer/songwriter) performing "Static Waves"
The original Ten out of Tenn debuted in 2005 and consisted of ten Nashville "Pop" musicians with over thirty albums released between them. Nine of these original artists will tour this winter and have invited Andrew Belle to join them.
Andrew Belle: In His Own Words
"Since I was a child, I've always been around music; taught to appreciate the art form but only at a reasonable distance. My parents never let me listen to the radio or any kind of secular music until I was well into High-school. Before that, in Junior high, I recall making mix tapes from local radio stations during the day, and then lying in bed at night listening to all the pop hits of that time through a small, plastic walkman that I had received a few Christmases earlier. Third Eye Blind, the Counting Crows, the Verve Pipe...these were the artists that first welcomed me into the world of meaningful pop-music. The first album that I ever bought for myself was the Counting Crow's 'August and Everything After' when I was a sophomore in High-school. It had already been out for several years at that point, but I can still remember sneaking it up to my room and listening to it very softly out of the dusty Sony boom-box in my bedroom; pouring over every melody and marveling over the lyrical genious in Adam Duritz; thinking, 'maybe I can do this someday?' Not that I think of myself now as important to music as Adam Duritz or the Counting Crows have been, nor do I even dare to compare myself to such talent, but thinking back on my earliest experiences with music, there is no doubt that those quiet moments spent alone in my bedroom shaped my desires and passions and gave me the hope to make my small mark on this world, one song at a time."

Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls) Promoting Twitter
Amanda Palmer, whom I've deleted from my Twitter account due to excessive "tweets" (I now hate myself for saying that), has this to say about the social networking site:
"crazy everything nowadays, but what's new.
alack, twitter has been good to me - and given me a new slogan:
FUCK THE SYSTEM I HAVE THE INTERNET.
twittering has been so effective lately that i'm just blown away - with a direct line to over 100,000 people and counting i'm able to do flash-webcasts when i feel like it & everybody instantly has the info and tunes in.
i've also been doing random Q&A's, keeping tabs on who's coming to what shows....and generally keeping up on the happy & gory details of everybody else's lives (including all of my artists friends, who are hopping on board in droves). it's a full-on 24/7 party/therapy session on the internet.
i know i sound like a twitter evangelist, but jesus, you should try it. it's seriously changing the world."
My thought/rant:
Is it just me or is the celebrity obsessed nature of society becoming intolerable? And do we really need to know every thought that occurs to someone just because they are in the public eye? "Having a cup of tea." Or, "Gone for a walk" or, "Just made a fart due to excessive consumption of kidney beans." I mean, do people really need to know this? Does it really need to be expressed? It all seems a bit narcissistic to me. I'm glad this creative person has found an outlet, but personally I find Twitter a bit distasteful.

Uniform Motion (RIYL: Midlake, Iron & Wine, Hood)
Installation #4 "Cast Iron" in Uniform Motion's live project leading to their 2010 release imitape. The band, along with an illustrator plan to release one episode per week until Christmas.

In a press release the band described their mission thusly (unedited):
As with most biographies, this story begins with the utterances of hypnotic phrases being repeated over, and over, and over, again; ricocheting through a developing sensitive mind; with the whispering of bitter-sweet music before the age of reason. The words, the sounds and the looks that a young mind has processed cannot be erased. They can only be stored in different places. Under the influence of Steven Heller’s Monsters and Magical Sticks, the concept of Uniform Motion sees the light.
The principle is that we go through life in a continual straight line and that the trajectory we are on will never change unless something, or someone, hits us.
After years and years of selectively storing data and cruising down the highway of life (and a quick stint with Angle -We'll Pick Up the Pieces Next Time, 2006), Andrew Richards picks up an old battered guitar. Two of the strings were missing, but that’s how that guitar was meant to me, so she would stay that way.
The 4-string guitar is the backbone of this album. Multiplied, duplicated, interlaced, and dissonant – as if there were different personalities trying to jump out of it. The vocals follow the same pattern - when strummed guitar strings become strings of words, or soft utterances that give substance to a subconscious idea. The beating of African percussion can be heard in the background, emanating from an urban soundscape, evoking a primitive nature, an imaginary journey, a calm floating sensation. The guitars hold this all together.
Some may think that Rain&Soil is reminiscent of the magnetism of Midlake’s Roscoe, that the generosity of Earthly Diamond resembles that of Sufjan Stevens’ work, that the vocals point towards the softness of Iron & Wine. Some may even sense José Gonzalez’s guitars resonating in the picture somewhere. Or perhaps there’s something you can’t quite put your finger on that makes you think of Peter Gabriel. The author of the biography can’t argue with any of that.
From Monday 5th October, up until around Christmas, the we'll be publishing a series of episodes every week, each episode including a song, a video and an interactive comic strip illustrating the song, along with the lyrics. Feel free to sign up for our mailing list. if you do, we'll send you a link to download the digital album and booklet containing the comics.

New Juliana Hatfield Record Peace and Love
Juliana Hatfield has a new release, Peace and Love, due February 16. The record, on which Hatfield played all instruments was also self produced and engineered. She purchased an eight track recorder from her brother, and the rest is history.
"I've produced records before but I was always in a studio with professional engineers. So it was definitely a learning process for me," says Hatfield, who was ready to strip things down after her critically acclaimed 2008 album, How To Walk Away, which was a full studio production. "I always like to try things I've never done before and I'd been yearning to record myself. I was able to follow every instinct without worrying that anyone was going to think it was a kooky idea, I just wanted to do something simple."
Tracks:
1. Peace and Love
2. The End Of The War
3. Why Can't We Love Each Other
4. Butterflies
5. What Is Wrong
6. Unsung
7. Evan
8. Let's Go Home
9. I Picked You Up
10. Faith In Our Friends
11. I'm Disappearing
12. Dear Anonymous

The Social Registry To Reissue Their First Release
The Social Registry are reissuing their 1982 self titled debut which was released under the moniker Interference. This vinyl and digital only release will be available December 8th.
Background P.R. info:
Forming out of the musical insurgence that was the NoiseFest at White Columns Gallery in 1981; Interference coalesced around three key figures of New York's downtown scene: Anne DeMaranis, David Linton and Michael Brown. DeMaranis had just parted ways with an early incarnation of Sonic Youth and co-curated the NoiseFest with Thurston Moore. Linton had headed to NYC a few years earlier with then school/band mate Lee Renaldo, eventually hooking up with Rhys Chatham for a three year stretch. Brown, then a twenty six year old PhD candidate at NYU, had recently broke rank with Rhys Chatham and drafted a wholly unconventional percussive approach to the Fender bass.
From their inception through their eventual fragmentation 30 months later, Interference charted their course across the stages available to them: CBGB's, The Mudd Club, The Kitchen etc., ultimately swelling to a quartet with the addition of fellow Rhys Chatham veteran Joe Dizney. In 1982 they recorded this LP at Radio City, engineered by Don Hunerberg (Blondie, Kiss, The Ramones, Sonic Youth, Live Skull) and with guest appearances by Elliot Sharp and Sue Hanel (The Swans). Originally slated for release on Josh Baer and Glenn Branca's legendary Neutral records, the record has remained unreleased, aside from a scant number of self-released cassettes.
After the bands demise, Linton remained entrenched in the New York underground art and music scene, through involvement with The Kitchen, The Wooster Group, and Soundlab, which lead him to the early 21st century downtown electronic scene. It was from here that David recruited the remixers which make up the forward thinking companion LP of this release: David Last, Doily and Criterion (Brooklyn Beats), Binsang AKA Toshio Kajiwara (Phenomena), QPE (Agriculture) and the 8-bit Gameboy tag team of Bubblyfish & glomag.

Retro Clip: Was Not Was "Hello Dad, I'm In Jail"
So, another song I've been wanting to hear is "Hello Dad, I'm In Jail." I used to throw it on mix tapes. I really should try to find this on cd somewhere. You may remember Was Not Was had a mainstream hit with the song "Walk The Dinosaur," but that was very different to this...
There was also this gem..

I can't find my Stump cd (A Fierce Pancake), and I really want to listen to it - so I'll share their video for the song "Buffalo." I really need to unpack my things...

The Return of Animal Collective's Campfire Songs
The formerly out of print Campfire Songs which was released in 2003 by Animal Collective, will be reissued January 26, 2010. The record is described by the band as not camp fire songs technically, but rather a record that hints at songs emerging from fire: "We wanted to give the music the feeling and atmosphere of the outdoors and the warmth of a fire, so people could bring it indoors." - Portner and Lennox
Trivia:
The songs were partially completed in an apartment that three shared, (Geologist does not appear on the album). It was recorded on a screened-in porch using portable mini disc players. This allowed for the surrounding sounds of nature to become an integral part of the sound achieved.

Rhino Turns It On Again With Genesis: The Movie Box
The following information is as it appears on the pres release for the new release. I thought fans would appreciate the detailed information.
5-DVD Boxed Set With New 2009 5.1 DTS And Dolby Digital Sound Mixes, Includes The DVD Debuts Of Genesis Live--The Mama Tour And Three Sides Live
Available From Rhino November 24
Following the release of Genesis Live 1973—2007, a boxed set gathering the live albums recorded by the legendary British group, with the added bonus of Live At The Rainbow 1973, and the critically-acclaimed CD/DVD double-disc set reissue of the 14 Genesis studio albums on the boxed sets Genesis 1976–1982, Genesis 1983–1998, and Genesis 1970–1975, Atlantic and Rhino will conclude its exhaustive rerelease program of the Genesis catalog with GENESIS: THE MOVIE BOX on November 24.
The 5-DVD boxed set, with new 2009 5.1 DTS and Dolby Digital sound mixes, features the DVD debuts of Genesis Live–The Mama Tour and Three Sides Live. The set will be available at physical retail outlets and at www.rhino.com for a suggested list price on $99.99 and includes:
Three Sides Live, the concert film shot at the Nassau Coliseum and released in tandem with the live album of the same title, which made the Top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic in 1982. Contains extra full-length tracks in 5.1 Audio only. Available on DVD for the first time.
Genesis Live–The Mama Tour, filmed in 1984 at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, and featuring the band performing material from the chart-topping Genesis album. Also features The Making of the Mama Album, a home video filmed by Phil Collins during the making of the Genesis album. Available on DVD for the first time.
Genesis Live At Wembley Stadium, shot during the group’s record-breaking run of four sold-out concerts in July 1987, at the height of their popularity following the release of the multi-platinum album Invisible Touch. The DVD also features the tour documentary entitled Visible Touch.
Genesis: The Way We Walk–Live In Concert, filmed in 1992 at London’s Earls Court Exhibition Centre, and issued alongside the albums Live–The Way We Walk Volume One: The Shorts and Volume Two: The Longs.
Bonus material alongside The Mama Documentary comes in the shape of the updated 2009 version of VH1 Behind The Music special about the band. The original version aired in December 1999.
The boxed set is designed so that fans of the group can insert into the packaging the two concert discs from When In Rome 2007 as well as the attendant documentary Come Rain Or Shine disc, filmed during their recent reunion tour.
Genesis have always been known for their sense of spectacle and their groundbreaking live shows, as much as their ambitious studio albums like the evergreen Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Over the last four decades, the group has sold 150 million albums worldwide and has influenced the likes of Elbow, Flaming Lips, and Jeff Buckley. The Behind The Music special tells most of their story, from their beginnings at Charterhouse in 1967 to the emergence of the classic lineup of Tony Banks (keyboards), Phil Collins (drums, vocals), Peter Gabriel (vocals, flute), Steve Hackett (guitars), and Mike Rutherford (bass, guitars) in 1970.
Following Gabriel’s departure in the mid-’70s, Collins stepped up to the microphone and the group scored Top 5 albums with A Trick of The Tail, Wind And Wuthering. Hackett left in 1977 but the ‘remaining triumvirate’ went from strength to strength and had their first Top 20 album in the U.S. with . . . And Then There Were Three . . . the next year.
THE MOVIE BOX concentrates on the dazzling concerts given by Banks, Collins, and Rutherford, with the help of guitarist Daryl Stuermer and drummer Chester Thompson, throughout the ’80s and early ’90s. Genesis explored a simpler, more direct, approach to songwriting, and became mainstream stars with the acclaimed albums Duke and Abacab. The band also performed in arenas and stadiums without losing any of their sophistication and attention to detail. Former Stiltskin vocalist Ray Wilson replaced Collins for the album Calling All Stations in 1997, the closing chapter in the Behind The Music special.
Genesis went on a ten-year hiatus and made a stunning return to the live arena in 2007 for a series of European and North American dates, including the landmark free concert they gave at the Circo Massimo in Rome, in front of 500,000 spectators. Filmed at the event, When In Rome 2007 subsequently topped the DVD charts in the U.K. last year.
Three Sides Live has previously been issued on VHS and laserdisc but looks and sounds amazing in 5.1 DTS and Dolby Digital sound. Filmed in 1981 at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island and the Savoy Theater in New York City, it features many of the best songs from Duke and Abacab, including the hits “Turn It On Again” and “Abacab,” as well as “Duchess,” “Misunderstanding,” “No Reply At All,” and “Man On The Corner.” The “In The Cage” medley incorporates “The Colony Of Slippermen,” another of the stand-out tracks from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, and ”The Cinema Show” from the album Selling England By The Pound. This is the first time that Three Sides Live has been made available on DVD and the only version available in 5.1 DTS and Dolby Digital sound. This edition features seven full-length audio only tracks in 5.1 including “Fountain of Salmacis” and “Follow You, Follow Me” which are not part of the visual concert.
Genesis Live–The Mama Tour captures the group on stage at Birmingham’s NEC and was first released on video in 1984. Directed by James Yukich, it includes all the singles from the Genesis album, namely “Mama,” “That’s All,” and “Illegal Alien,” along with the “Home By The Sea”/“Second Home By The Sea” suite. The “Turn It On Again” medley sees Banks, Collins, and Rutherford reference several of their favorite ’60s songs by Solomon Burke, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Animals, The Who, and Wilson Pickett. Extra includes The Making of the Mama Album, a home movie filmed by Phil Collins during the making of the Genesis album. Genesis Live–The Mama Tour is issued here on DVD for the very first time.
Genesis Live At Wembley Stadium was known as The Invisible Touch Tour when it originally came out on video in 1988. Again directed by Yukich, it features the band during their unprecedented and unmatched run of four sold-out dates at the home of English football in July 1987. Highlights include versions of the hits “Invisible Touch,” “Land Of Confusion,” “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight,” and “Throwing It All Away,” as well as the tour de force “Domino” and the instrumental “The Brazilian,” all from the Invisible Touch album, and Collins and Thompson’s “Drum Duet.” “Los Endos,” originally the closing track on A Trick Of The Tail, remains a popular live number, while this time the “Turn It On Again” medley incorporates hits by the Four Tops and The Righteous Brothers. The DVD will feature the tour documentary–Visible Touch.
Genesis: The Way We Walk–Live In Concert was filmed at London’s Earls Court in November 1992 and issued on VHS the following year. It appeared on DVD in 2002 but again looks and sounds startling in 5.1 DTS and Dolby Digital sound. The set list highlights the then current We Can’t Dance album and includes the hits “No Son Of Mine,” “I Can’t Dance,” “Hold On My Heart,” and “Jesus He Knows Me” along with the extended pieces “Driving The Last Spike,” “Fading Lights,” and “Dreaming While You Sleep.” The “Old Medley” takes in “The Musical Box,” “I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe),” their 1974 debut hit “Firth Of Fifth,” “Dance On A Volcano,” “Follow You, Follow Me,” and more.
- New updated 2009 version of VH1 Behind The Music features excerpts of many of the aforementioned tracks, along with early favorites like “The Knife,” “Return Of The Giant Hogweed,” “Watcher Of The Skies,” and “Supper’s Ready,” curios such as “In The Beginning,” “The Silent Sun,” and “Twilight Alehouse” and also covers the solo careers of Banks and Collins, Rutherford’s work with Mike & The Mechanics, as well as Wilson’s tenure, including the “Congo,” “Shipwrecked,” and “Not About Us” singles he recorded with the band.

A Brief History of Slumberland Records:
Indie record labels aren't always noted for longevity, and in this as well as many other things Slumberland Records stands apart. Started in 1988/1989 as a collective effort on behalf of members of DC-area bands Velocity Girl, Big Jesus Trash Can/Whorl, Black Tambourine and Powderburns, Slumberland was inspired by such musical happenings as C-86, early Creation, Flying Nun, Postcard Records, K Records, Bus Stop, lower East Side noise, and the renegade art aesthetics of people like Cage, Burroughs and Duchamp. Slumberland's first release, the What Kind of Heaven Do You Want? 7" compilation from December 1989, staked out a unique place in the indie underground, marking the label as being equally concerned with noise and pop melodies.
Over the next 18 months, the first fifteen or so 7" releases spooled out in quick succession, introducing the world to the core DC-area Slumberland posse as well as sonic confederates from the UK and New England such as Jane Pow, Small Factory, HoneyBunch and Swirlies. Adding to the growing roster a series of influential releases by bands like Velocity Girl, Lilys and Black Tambourine, Slumberland was up and running.
Early 1992 saw the move of label principal Mike Schulman to Berkeley, CA and the label with him. Slumberland's first full-length albums from Lilys, Sleepyhead and Jane Pow quickly followed. During the mid-to-late-1990s Slumberland went from strength-to-strength, with well-received albums from Stereolab, Rocketship, The Ropers, Boyracer, Hood, Lorelei and Henry's Dress coming to define a crucial segment of the US indie underground. Slumberland wasn't easily categorized as indie-rock, noise-pop, post-rock or indie-pop; all of these sounds were represented and then some. The watchword was quality, and the reputation of so many Slumberland records from that era as classics is based on the label's "music first" policy.
As the '90s turned into the '00s, Slumberland continued to release classic records from bands like The Aislers Set, The Saturday People and Nord Express, but the dissolution of the core Slumberland bands and the grind of ten years of hard work took their toll and the release schedule slowed. While the label relaxed its pace, the indie world gradually caught up with the Slumberland aesthetic. Throughout the mid-00s bands claimed the Slumberland legacy as inspiration, and in 2006 the label was ready for another run. The last three years has seen an amazing spate of activity, with albums from bands like The Lodger, Sarandon, Bricolage and Liechtenstein leading up to the label's recent successes with Crystal Stilts, Cause Co-Motion! and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart. Slumberland is arguably more active than ever, and its knack for nurturing the very finest bands continues to both please old fans and charm a new generation of indie kids.

Matador Reissues Cold Cave
Matador to re-issue the debut full-length Love Comes Close from Philly/New York quartet, Cold Cave on November 3.
MP3s for "The Laurels of Erotomania" and "Life Magazine":
The hype:
Cold Cave is led by musical journeyman Wesley Eisold (who served time with hardcore punk legends American Nightmare/Give Up The Ghost and Some Girls), joined by an orbiting line-up that includes fellow allies, Caralee McElroy (formerly of Xiu Xiu), Dominick Fernow (contemporary noise icon Prurient), and Sarah Lipstate (formerly of Parts and Labor, Noveller).
Love Comes Close instantly sold out when it was released in August and will be re-issued by Matador on November 3rd. The warm, rich synth pop sounds are laced with equal parts of romance and nihilism. Cold Cave is possibly the only band ever to have been compared to both Erasure and Whitehouse.
