LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22, 2010 — In the wake of Florida’s decision to issue a pardon to Jim Morrison of the Doors more than 40 years after his alleged obscene acts on a Miami stage, his bandmates Ray Manzarek, John Densmore and Robby Krieger issued this statement:
In 1969 the Doors played an infamous concert in Miami, Florida. Accounts vary as to what actually happened on stage that night.
Whatever took place that night ended with The Doors sharing beers and laughter in the dressing room with the Miami police, who acted as security at the venue that evening. No arrests were made. The next day we flew off to Jamaica for a few days’ vacation before our planned 20-city tour of America.
That tour never materialized. Four days later, warrants were issued in Miami for the arrest of Morrison on trumped-up charges of indecency, public obscenity, and general rock-and-roll revelry. Every city The Doors were booked into canceled their engagement.
A circus of fire-and-brimstone “decency” rallies, grand jury investigations and apocalyptic editorials followed – not to mention allegations ranging from the unsubstantiated (he exposed himself) to the fantastic (the Doors were “inciting a riot” but also “hypnotizing” the crowd).
In August, Jim Morrison went on trial in Miami. He was acquitted on all but two misdemeanor charges and sentenced to six months’ hard labor in Raiford Penitentiary. He was appealing this conviction when he died in Paris on July 3, 1971. Four decades after the fact, with Jim an icon for multiple generations – and those who railed against him now a laughingstock – Florida has seen fit to issue a pardon.
We don't feel Jim needs to be pardoned for anything.
His performance in Miami that night was certainly provocative, and entirely in the insurrectionary spirit of The Doors' music and message. The charges against him were largely an opportunity for grandstanding by ambitious politicians – not to mention an affront to free speech and a massive waste of time and taxpayer dollars. As Ann Woolner of the Albany Times-Union wrote recently, “Morrison's case bore all the signs of a political prosecution, a rebuke from the cultural right to punish a symbol of Dionysian rebellion.”
If the State of Florida and the City of Miami want to make amends for the travesty of Jim Morrison's arrest and prosecution forty years after the fact, an apology would be more appropriate – and expunging the whole sorry matter from the record. And how about a promise to stop letting culture-war hysteria trump our First Amendment rights? Freedom of Speech must be held sacred, especially in these reactionary times.

The single "Ugly Thing" will be available October 26 via CDbaby, iTunes, Amazon etc. YOu may download it fro .99 from the band here. The next single - as yet unknown - will see a 7" release.
A message from the band regarding the .99 proce tag: "Regarding 99c. Many people these days don't want to pay for music, and I understand the reasons, but I'm a believer that 99c is not really big money to pay for a piece of art, for something that will give you joy, inspiration, or even put you in a sad pensive mood and make you think. People spend more money on Hollywood movies thus making rich people richer, or spend more money on beer, coffee and cigarettes thus making rich people richer.
Tom and I spent a long time making this record, as usual we attended to every detail, we strive for quality (hopefully), we put love and sorrow and our whole life into it, and we hope people will experience some kind of feeling while listening to our songs. By paying 99 c per song you're saying to us 'We appreciate your effort, we're recognizing your quality, we're helping the arts!' And we do thank you for that! It will also allow us to continue making new songs for you." - Angelina/Persephone's Bees

“Bouncing Cats” is the inspiring story of one man’s attempt to create a better life for the children of Uganda using the unlikely tool of hip-hop with a focus on b-boy culture and breakdance. In 2006, Abraham “Abramz” Tekya, a Ugandan b-boy and A.I.D.S. orphan created Breakdance Project Uganda (B.P.U.) with the goal of establishing a free workshop that would empower, rehabilitate and heal the community by teaching youth about b-boy culture. Abramz invited Crazy Legs, one of the founding members of the Rock Steady Crew, to visit Uganda and teach these classes. From the southern slums of Uganda to the war-torn North, Crazy Legs encountered a passion for hip-hop and desire to learn amongst the most squalid conditions. “Bouncing Cats” follows Abramz, Crazy Legs, and Breakdance Project Uganda on a journey to use hip-hop culture for positive social change. The film features narration by Common and interviews with Mos Def, Will.I.Am, and K’Naan.

Head on over to Sub Pop for free downloads of new Awith tracks "After Parties" and "Flares" with this magical link.
The P.R. skinny:
Dntel is the operational alias for Los Angeles resident Jimmy Tamborello. Jimmy also sometimes records and releases music under the name James Figurine. He is also the host of the Dublab radio show “Dying Songs.” And, he is also, it's true, one half of The Postal Service (whose 2003 album Give Up is Sub Pop's second best-selling album of all time). In 2007, we at Sub Pop released the most recent Dntel album, entitled Dumb Luck which included contributions from a whole raft of talented people too numerous to list here (a short version of that list would include members of Grizzly Bear, Rilo Kiley, Bright Eyes, and Arthur & Yu). On
Dec. 7th, 2010 we are releasing new music from Dntel in the form of a pair of companion EPs, entitled After Parties 1 and (very sensibly, given their complementary relationship) After Parties 2. These two EPs collect 8 new Dntel tracks (3 on After Parties 1 and 5 on After Parties 2) which are a bit more minimalist and experimental in nature, all of them instrumental, and feature (to the best of our "knowledge") a list of guest contributors numbering exactly zero. These 8 new tracks are also, we are able to discern even through the mist of biases both personal and professional, really something special. Both After Parties 1 and After Parties 2 will be available on 12" vinyl and as weightless, odorless digital audio files; neither will be available on CD. It is worth mentioning here that at some as-yet-undefined point in 2011 we will be releasing an expanded reissue of Dntel's 2001 full-length Life Is Full of Possibilities, which is not only a great record, but notable for, among a great many other things, including the collaboration between Ben Gibbard and Jimmy (on "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan") which led to the formation of The Postal Service.

Straight from the Third Man website: We’ve been sitting on this one so long it feels good to finally let it free like some doves at a wedding.
You may know them from “Kill Bill” but let it be known that for many years prior the 5.6.7.8’s toiled away in their own 1960’s gold-glitter garage universe without the slightest notice from those outside a small circle a like-minded anoraks.
That’s why Third Man is overjoyed to reissue the self-titled LP from Japan’s finest female garage rockers. As its first-ever domestic US release, this album is a long-time personal favorite of Jack White’s and he’s been known to break into “I Walk Like Jayne Mansfield” (a veritable classic included on this LP) without notice during White Stripes live performances. Couple that with impeccable covers of “Harlem Nocturne”, “Long Tall Sally” as well other originals and what you get is as close to a modern garage “must-have” as there is.
Third Man spared no expense with this project from the gold-foil embossing on the old-style, tip-on LP cover (something the band wanted on the original issue of the record but which was not feasible at the time) to the limited edition, split-color black and gold pressing...this project was a labor of love. Split-colors will only be available randomly in mail orders. No copies will be sold from Third Man.
SO...To celebrate our monumental 2nd mind blowing re-issue this year (see Jon Wayne) the go go garage girls are dropping by from Japan to play their first show in America in several years! That’s right, the 5,6,7,8’s are playing Live at Third Man Records on Oct. 22nd. I can hear you wondering already if the show is going to be recorded for a live album. Aren’t you astute? Of course it is. And we wouldn’t have one of our favorite bands crossing continents and oceans and not stop by Third Man Studios for a Blue Series would we? WELL WOULD WE???
The 5,6,7,8’s record re-issue release party and live show get down: Third Man Records Oct. 22nd Doors at 9pm, TMR DJs from doors, 5,6,7,8’s live at 10:30pm This show is 21+ and a bar will be open. Sorry, no kids, no BYOB. Advance tickets available at Third Man Records for $5
Check out Halloween Mix 2010 #3 for a Jon Spencer Blues Explosion song "She Said."
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Dirty Shirt Rock ‘N’ Roll: The First Ten Years A Kaye Telle Review
Jon Spencer is a man of many faces. He is a crazed preacher proselytizing the electric gospel. He is a musical ringmaster with Tourette’s Syndrome repeatedly proclaiming, “the blues is number one.” He is the majestic mumbling Boomhauer of rock and roll. He and the Blues Explosion are here for one reason: to save rock and roll. And they do it repeatedly, as though it simply flows from their veins; as if they were born to do it. If you’ve ever seen them live, you know two things for certain: they take no prisoners and they are not fucking around.
These three men—Jon Spencer (vocals and guitar), Judah Bauer (guitar, backing vocals), and Russell Simins (drums)—come at you with the force of a tsunami. Spencer alternately oozes sex and confidence while spazzing out like a man possessed; Bauer is cool and laid back while laying down the foundation; and Simins looms large over his drum kit building beats like Godzilla driving a freight train that’s speeding straight for you. Phil Spector built an undeniable wall of sound, but The Blues Explosion could knock it down with just a few riffs and not even break a sweat. The Blues Explosion are a force to be reckoned with, so one had better get in on the party or get the hell out of the way.
jsbx
If you ever bought a ticket for the ride, man, were you in for a good time. These boys tore it up. They made rock and roll that hit you in the gut and the crotch like rock music was intended to do. It was powerful heady stuff. Sure Spencer had his shtick, and fans made sport of counting how many times he shouted “Blues Explosion!” or “number one!” during a show or a song, but there was also honesty. The Blues Explosion were genuine. They delivered on the promise of rock and roll and then some.
If you have yet to hear The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, it’s fair to say that I both pity and envy you. I pity the fact that you missed out on one of the greatest live experiences to be had by a rock music fan, and pity that you’ve missed out on endless hours of musical bliss.
But I envy the experience you will have upon your first listen, the joy you will experience when you hear the bands new release Dirty Shirt Rock ‘N’ Roll, a best-of compilation by one of the best rock bands there ever was. . . or will be. From the blues infused down ‘n’ dirty “Chicken Dog” to the lazy groove of “Magical Colors” to the grimy, rockabilly humor of “Blues X Man,” this album is all killer, no filler.
“Bellbottoms” (which always makes for the perfect opener to a mix tape), comes in with strings and lulls the listener into a slow groove and then smacks the shit out of them with piercing guitars, drums going off like machine gun shells hitting the pavement, and ’round about the four minute mark—when Spencer proclaims “I Wanna Dance”—it gets even more intense, which hardly seems possible. “Shake Em Down” makes dance music from good, old fashioned blues. “Flavor” is one of the best collaborations ever to hit wax with Beck rapping and Mike D adding flair, not to mention the entertaining music video. Remember those? Not just videos, but entertaining videos? Yeah, The Blues Explosion had those, too.
It was just announced that The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion will perform at the Pitchfork Festival and if you have the means to see them live—do it. Make it happen, because I’d hedge a bet it will end up being one of your favorite concert memories.
Thanks for coming back, Blues Explosion. Now its time for everyone else to step aside so you can show them how it’s done. Yes indeed, the blues is number one.

This action-comedy was written and directed by Bridget Palardy, a music video director and former waitress herself, who teamed up with her sister and comedic actress, Kat Palardy, in the lead role.

Here's New Video From Blue Water White Death (Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart & Shearwater's Jonathan Meiburg) “Grunt Tube”
Blue Water White Death, the collaboration between Xiu Xiu’s Jamie Stewart and Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg, has already been named one of the most anticipated albums of the year by Flavorpill. Prior to its impending release on 10/12 via Graveface, the duo is releasing a video for the song “Grunt Tube”, created by Jamie Stewart. In his own words, the video comprises footage of the following:
* Looking out of the window of a car while on a one-month drive through the most beautiful and bleak parts of the U.S.A. and Canada while infected with swine flu. * Close up shots of computer screens while watching art movies, porn, and cheap serial television in extreme states of drunkenness and jet lag. * Shots of over-growth while being lost in Appalachia. * Taping quotes from books about the CIA’s involvement in Afghanistan, gay life in Japan, and early, early 4AD records. * Ultra close-ups of those little toys on a string that you get from 50-cent vending machines that you attach to your Game Boy or cell phone.

Garbo's Daughter has a cassette EP out on Burger records. I've blogged about them before, because they are truly fun, energetic, sweet sugary pop straight from the heart - and I mean that in the best way possible.
The 6 song EP (cassette) Mandy and Jason For a Time is available via the fantabulous Burger Records. It consists of archival recordings from 2002 that Mandy Mullins recorded with friend Jason Testasecca. You may know his other band, Nobunny! The songs were previously released via Go Zombie! Records. Please support Garbo's daughter because they're D.I.Y. and F-U-N.
I just received my cassette and I can't wait to give it a few listens as soon as possible. I know it will be good. Burger Records releases some catchy tunes - so surf on over to their website for more of their offerings.
Here's a live video by Cumstain from their cassette release party at Burger's store:
And be sure to vist Garbo's Daughter's myspace: here. I hinted at a possible swiftly approaching tour in an earlier post, but can now confirm the dates. Jay from TRS-80 is reportedly backing up Geneva Jacuzzi with his electronic Simmons drum kit (as seen in the video below).

we hope that you are doing well today. the band has been straight up busy in the studio this summer with a fairly large collection of songs. we are pleased to share a handful of them with you right now. this record is something we made as a little summer retreat from our ongoing work on the third full length. many of these tunes have been bouncing around since the formation of the band back in 06. we were super pumped to utilize a few fresh and casual musical approaches on this record. we hope that you find something that satisfies you within this body of work. if you enjoy the music and feel compelled to support the group, please notice the support button beneath the download link and the image. we are going to be heading out on the roads this october and would greatly appreciate anything that you would feel comfortable contributing.
i would also like to add that we are still hard at work on the as yet untitled third lp. we expect to be wrapping that record at the end of the month. we can’t wait to play loads of this new material for you folks this winter and next year. at the moment i am writing all of the album info on a limited run of cd copies of ‘last day of summer’ that will be lovingly hand packaged and available at our fall shows. can’t wait to see you soon!
all the best, james

I love to buy and collect music, and making mixes for friends is one of my favorite past-times. I don't usually post mixes as I focus on news and new mp3s to promote bands and hopefully aid in sales, but I do love Halloween! I hope you'll like one of the artists enough to buy an album/cd/download. LINK REMOVED - I MEAN< WHY WOULD I POST FREE MUSIC? I WOULDn"TIn case you missed it - Halloween music mix one is in an earlier post.

NEW YORK, NY - Metropolis recording artists FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY (FLA) regretfully are being forced to cancel their planned U.S. tour this Fall. "We have had too many problems putting the tour together, and the bottom line is if we can't put on a good show for you the fans, then it's just not worth it. We apologise to all of you," says keyboardist/vocalist Bill Leeb.
Planned to begin on Oct. 31st and proceed straight through to the end of November, the tour would have been their first since 2007. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen and problematic issues, the band has instead opted to look forward and plan for 2011 to tour the U.S. in support their critically-hailed album Improvised. Electronic. Device.
Adds keyboardist Jeremy Inkel, "We are sorry to all the fans and promoters and we will do everything we can to make it happen next year." The European tour is unaffected and will continue as planned. Riding high on a crest of applause, the new album (often shortened to "I.E.D.") has been described by Outburn Magazine as, "a collection of cohesive and adrenaline charged songs that maintains the complexities of the band's best material." FearNet says, "Through the years, there's always been a memorable hook and infectious beat lurking in FLA's dark textured atmospheres, like a sinister prize in every box... and this record is no exception." NBC-TV chimed, "Pounding beats. Brooding and extremely dark lyrics. Metal guitars and some of the best production out there in the industrial genre. This is Front Line Assembly at the top of their collective game."
Formed in 1986 when Bill left Skinny Puppy, they are still as vital and energetic as ever. Front Line Assembly is Bill Leeb (keyboards, vocals), Jeremy Inkel (keyboards), Chris Peterson (keyboards) and Jared Slingerland (guitar). Improvised. Electronic. Device. was released via Metropolis Records on June 22, 2010.
Purely because I'm in a rush and and didn't want to wait another day to post - not due to lack of interest in the story, here's the unedited press release:
Einstürzende Neubauten Announce 30th Anniversary Performances in North America:
Groundbreaking Berlin Avant-Garde Musicians Present Concerts and Multi-Disciplinary Experiences in Five Cities
Einstürzende Neubauten, Berlin's storied and essential leading edge of the international avant-garde music scene, will celebrate thirty years of live performance with a very select group of appearances in North America and Europe. In North America, four US cities and one Canadian city have been selected for the band's first dates on these shores in over six years. In each, the band will present two events on two consecutive days. One will be a traditional, full-length concert by the entire group with a repertoire spanning the length of their career. The second, however, will present fans with a uniquely-expanded opportunity to connect with the band members and further facets of their work. Among the elements involved:
Q & A With Fans: regarding the band's history, the various stages of creative development, work with the "supporters" of the neubauten.org project (phase 1-3), and about the future. Workshops / Lectures: regarding the band's connection with Berlin culture from the 1980s to today. Films: documenting the inner workings and public image of the band during the 30 years of their existence. Band documentaries:
- HÖR MIT SCHMERZEN (2000) by Christian Beetz, a documentation of the band's first 20 years
- LIEBESLIEDER (1993) by Klaus Maeck, a 100-minute compilation of the years 1980-93, consisting primarily of live material.
- ON TOUR WITH NEUBAUTEN.ORG (2005) by Danielle de Picciotto, a documentation about "neubauten.org," the band's Internet project.
- HALBER MENSCH (1985), an artistic collaboration with the Japanese filmmaker Sogo Ishii. Films whose soundtracks involved Neubauten: - BERLIN BABYLON (DVD) 2002, by Hubertus Siegert, about the rebuilding and reorganization of the city of Berlin after the fall of the Wall. Films that were produced by the Band themselves:
- GRUNDSTUECK (2005), the film of the "Supporter Concert" in the Palast der Republik, never shown publicly, which was originally only available to supporters of the Internet project.
- PALAST DER REPUBLIK (2006), the band’s official concert in the partially torn down GDR Palast der Republik.
Solo Performances: presenting individual band members' solo projects in the form of readings, musical performance and DJ sets
Photos: exhibiting fine photography related to the band

Factoid: As a member of industrial rock outfit, Front Line Assembly and later, Delerium, Fulber went on to sell a quarter of a million albums in the US and over a million units worldwide with the collaborative album, Karma. On Conjure One’s self-titled debut, two singles – “Tears From The Moon” and “Sleep” – placed #1 on the UK Club Chart and #3 on Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. Having worked with a diverse collection of artists – Josh Groban, P.O.D., Sarah Brightman, Mudvayne, Sinead O’Connor, Megadeth, Fear Factory – the multi-talented Fulber brings his expertise to his solo project. Exilarch (a reference to the Jewish leaders of the Babylonian exile) is a nomadic album that travels between light and dark, meticulously incorporating world-influenced instrumentals grounded with haunting vocals, lush textures and subtle electrobeats.
Mariage Blanc will release their self-titled debut November 16. Well, it's only a debut if you don;t count the critically touted 2008 self- released Broken Record. To download Mariage Blanc "Whatever You Say I Am" click here. And who doesn;t like a peppy little tune with sleigh bells?

Unedited press release:
LOS ANGELES – This summer, Eric Clapton gathered a veritable Who’s Who of the world’s most talented guitar players at the third Crossroads Guitar Festival, an 11-hour celebration of the six-string that attracted a sold-out crowd of more than 27,000 music fans to Chicago’s Toyota Park. All profits from this daylong display of guitar virtuosity benefited The Crossroads Centre in Antigua, a treatment and education facility Clapton founded to help people suffering from chemical dependency.
Rhino Entertainment presents more than four hours of music, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage from this star-studded concert, including performances by Clapton, ZZ Top, Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck, Vince Gill, Buddy Guy, John Mayer, Derek Trucks, B.B. King, and Bill Murray, who served as the concert’s master of ceremonies. CROSSROADS GUITAR FESTIVAL 2010 will be available November 9 at all retail outlets, including www.rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $34.98 (Two-Disc Blu-ray) and $29.98 (Two-Disc DVD). This is the first-ever release of a Crossroads Guitar Festival on Blu-ray.
“The Crossroads Festival is the realization of a dream for me, to gather a group of amazingly talented musicians to perform on one stage,” Clapton said. “The Crossroads performers are all musicians I admire and respect.”
It’s no surprise a festival named for a Robert Johnson song would include a heavy dose of the blues and CROSSROADS GUITAR FESTIVAL 2010 does not disappoint with remarkable performances by Robert Cray, Hubert Sumlin (Howlin’ Wolf’s guitarist), Jimmie Vaughan, Sonny Landreth, Gary Clark Jr., Keb’ Mo’, and Buddy Guy, plus B.B. King who led an all-star jam of his classic “The Thrill Is Gone.” The rock contingent was well represented by ZZ Top, Jeff Beck, the John Mayer Trio, Doyle Bramhall II, the Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, Warren Haynes, and Steve Winwood, who teamed with Clapton for several performances including an epic cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile.”
Other styles find a home here too, with “Blackwaterside” by Scottish singer-songwriter Bert Jansch an accomplished acoustic player; “One More Last Chance” and an amazing take on Clapton’s “Lay Down Sally” by country picker Vince Gill who is accompanied by the legendary James Burton and others; “Angelina” and “Vonetta” by jazz guitarist Earl Klugh; and Jeff Beck who transforms Puccini’s aria “Nessun Dorma” into a soaring piece for electric guitar.
Other artists making appearances include: Sheryl Crow, Ronnie Wood, Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang, Joe Bonamassa, Pino Daniele, Stefan Grossman, and Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas.
CROSSROADS GUITAR FESTIVAL 2010 also features Bill Murray, who once again supplied the festival’s nonmusical highlights with his over-the-top introductions of the performers. Throwing himself into the occasion, Murray dressed up as Jimi Hendrix at one point, and even made an appearance in a jumpsuit in the guise of Elvis Presley.
The first Crossroads Guitar Festival, in June 2004 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, was an unprecedented collection of guitar icons from blues, rock, and contemporary music. The sold-out show was chronicled in a two-disc DVD that has since gone on to become one of the world’s top-selling music DVDs, achieving the 10x platinum mark in the United States alone. The Crossroads Guitar Festival 2007 was the second such concert by Clapton and was also staged at Toyota Park in July of 2007 and was filmed for a second DVD that met similar acclaim and has been certified 6x platinum.

About Analog Playset:
Welcome to Analog Playset. This is an idea I have wanted to do for quite a long time, and I am finally going for it. Music is obviously a big part of my life, and I have had a toy obsession (in many different forms) for about as long as I can remember. My goal with Analog Playset is to combine two of my biggest loves, music and toys. Through constant touring over the past 7 years, I have met so many amazing musicians and artists. And I have been to so many amazing toy stores and art galleries around the world. I am excited to attempt to bring all those things together and make beautiful babies. There are so many fun possibilities, and new ideas keep coming up every day. We should have some shirts for sale very soon, and some exciting news and announcements to follow soon after. Shirts are only the appetizer. Stay tuned for a lot of fun. I hope you are even half as excited as I am.
