MP3/Wavves Push Up Digital Release Date

The new Wavves album King of The Beach has been bumoed to an earlier release date. It will debut for sale at itunes on July 1, other digital outlets July 13, and the CD/LP street date remains August 3.

The album promises a fresh sound for Wavves. Nathan Williams (AKA Wavves) said of this release, "There was a conscious effort going into this that I didn't want to make the same record again. I already made the same record twice, with the same fucking cover art. It wasn't overbearing, but I didn't want to recreate something I'd done. I wanted to make something bigger, something stronger."

Dennis Herring (MOdest Mouse) produced the record. The two came at the project from different angles which created creative - as well as general - tension. "There were some definite 'I want to wring you neck'-type moments," Williams said. "When you're not watering it down with a load of shit and reverb, it's a lot harder to make a record, because you know every part is going to be heard perfectly. You can't half-ass anything," continued Williams. "A lot more effort went into this than with previous Wavves records."

"Starting April, I will be without a home for one year. It seems the easiest way to get to all 50 states in one year is to avoid the paying bills and rent and make different parts of the country my home base. I plan on touring a ton and being broke forever. I am starting my journey East (Philly) and playing with Mark from the band Hop Along and possibly another friend. Below is the list of dates. If you’d like us to play at your venue/house/party or if you would like to offer up your house so I can write and record a song in it, please message me Netherfriendsbooking@gmail.com."

Synopsis:
"A coming of age story set in contemporary Los Angeles following
teenage outsider Sadie who, uninspired by the dull humiliating rituals
of sorority initiation, is devoted to her photography. Excluded from
the school's social mainstream, she meets and befriends new girl and
fellow social outcast Nico. Part Mary Quant and part Edie Sedgewick,
Nico is obsessed with mid '60s Mod culture and manages to be a style
icon despite having Milroy's disease and walking with a cane. The
blossoming friendship between the girls introduces Sadie to entirely
new experiences, pushing the young photographer far beyond her
familiar suburban world.

Peter Murphy To Appear In Next Twilight Film

Need a reason to see the new Twilight film?

Legendary Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy will have a cameo appearance as "The Cold One" in the most recent installment of the uber hot Twilight series Eclipse. Murphy will attend the London premiere with his daughter Hurihan at Leicester Square at the Odeon Theatre.

Murphy said of his cameo appearance in the hot tween venture “Who else
could have and should have done it? (Laughing) It was really lovely and
smart of David Slade to ask me…I was honored, actually.” You might recall Murphy appeared rattling his cage in the David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve vampire film The Hunger while Bauhaus track "Bela Lugosi's Dead" played setting the scene.

Murphy, soon to release his ninth studio album, produced by David Baron and aptly titled Ninth has long downplayed his position as "eldergoth statesman," but seems to be accepting it almost 25 years into his solo career.

Murphy and seminal goth band Bauhaus opened for Nine Inch Nails, and Murphy joined Trent Reznor onstage for a few songs on the final NIN tour. He performed NIN's "Reptile,” along with his own hit "Strange Kind Of Love," Bauhaus' "Kick in the Eye," Joy Division cover “Atmosphere” and Pere Ubu's "Final Solution," which appeared on Murphy's 1986 solo debut Should the World Fail to Fall Apart.

Murphy continues to tour and will soon embark on the European leg of his Dirty Dirt Tour. Commenting on his performance of new material Murphy said, “I have had my Ninth album ready to go for a while now." “I’ve been playing it live, alongside Bauhaus classics and my own hits, long before the official release and it’s added more stardust to the long shelf life of songs I have under my belt.”

THE DIRTY DIRT TOUR:
Thurs, July 29 – Paris, France – La Machine Du Moulin Rouge
Fri, July 30 – Aletejo, Portugal – Evora Festival Alentajo
Sun, Aug 1 – Wolverhampton, UK – The Slade Rooms Wolverhampton Civic Halls

Ólöf Arnalds and Jonathan Richman

Jonathan Richman is such a fan of Icelandic artist Ólöf Arnalds that he's invited her to perform a few live dates with him. Richmond was quoted as saying "Since we met ('we' being me and Tommy, my drummer) Olof 3 or 4 years ago in Iceland, she's been one of our favorite musicians. So we're really happy to get this chance to play 3 nights with her here in the U.S.A. When we went back to Iceland, she opened two shows for us one night after the other - And, she was really different each show! So come see her maybe more than just once - that's why I wanted her to play these three nights."

Olaf will be performing songs from her upcoming release Innundir skinni which will be available September 24 via One Little Indian. This record marks the first time Arnalds has released songs in English, and three are included on the album.

Cassettes Won't Listen Debuts Animal Ox (Animal Collective meets Cannibal Ox Remix) Free Download

Cassettes Won't Listen (aka Jason Drake) has been hard at work on a follow up to '08's Small Time Machine.

You may also recall he released the mashup of 2001's The Cold Vein with some of Animal Collective's discography. And according to CWL's press agents "CWL's last mashup was released months after his 2008 debut but was quickly met with a cease and desist letter from none other but the RIAA. Ludacris Democracy included a match up of the 7 leaked GNR Chinese Democracy tracks and the most popular Ludacris tracks spanning the artist's career. The mashup only saw 24 hours before it was forced down."

The hard work and hip hop creativity continues this summer as CWL updates his website www.cassetteswontlisten.com with "leaks" and other surprises (here). Also in the works is a release from his instrumental experimental side project Dfalt whose debut album will be titled, appropriately enough - First. And the latest release Animal Ox, a combo of Animal Collective and Cannibal Ox, debuted on XLR8R where you may download it for free - no strings attached here.

Animal Ox tracks:
1 A B-Boys Alpha
2 Battle For Asgard
3 The F-word
4 Vein
5 Real Earth
6 Raspberry Fields
7 Atom
8 Scream Phoenix
9 Painkillers

New Mighty Boosh Documentary

Here's a promo for the Mighty Boosh documentary Journey of the Childmen which premieres this weekend at the Tribeca.

MP3/ From a Fountain

South Dakota's From a Fountain (aka Douglas Kirby; aka Shale & Sandstone)is set to release a debut album featuring a "rebel band of time-traveling Native Americans" August 31st on Park the Van Records.

For a bit more of an explanation, check out this info direct from the press release:
Shale & Sandstone visualizes a rogue band of Native Americans, far in the future, who have successfully remained hidden for generations. Organized in present day and persevering throughout the years, they have awaited the advent of time travel, with the intention of going back to offer their pre-contact ancestors antibodies to the European diseases that would eventually decimate them. Thus safeguarded, the Natives would likely be able to withstand the onslaught of the European population and hold on to much of their homeland and identity. The time-travelers' plan, however, takes an unexpected turn - the ancient people turn down the option of being inoculated, though not without much wailing and despair at what was to befall their people. As the old ones refused the antibodies, the story ends there, for history goes on un-changed. The remainder of the album reflects on meeting with the infinite in this manner and tries to make sense of their decision.

Bio Info for Douglas Kirby:

Though Kirby has lived in many places across the United States, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, one of the more isolated cities in the country, is From a Fountain's forever-home. From 2006-2008, after living in Philadelphia for many years, Kirby formed and spearheaded the art and music collective, Cities of the Red Night, in Sioux Falls. They rented a giant 7,000 square foot warehouse in Tea, South Dakota, just outside of Sioux Falls. Cities of the Red Night hosted a show on the local college radio station in Sioux Falls called the B&G Marshmallow Malt Radio Spectacular, named after a featured dessert from a local roadside soft-serve stand. (As an ice cream/malt fanatic, Kirby is the only customer in the history of the Franklin Fountain, an old-timey soda fountain in Philadelphia, to be offered a line of credit at the shop. He paid his ice cream bill with them at the end of each month.) After living in a cabin in Joshua Tree, CA for a year, Kirby now lives in a reclusive town in Marin County, CA where he spends much of his time working on music, surfing and eating lots of ice cream.

Press release info:
In fall of 2009, Patrick Flegel (vocals/guitar), Matt Flegel (bass/vocals), Chris Reimer (guitar/vocals), and Michael Wallace (drums) went into the studio with an abundance of ideas, working around conflicting schedules and graveyard shifts. With Chad VanGaalen again on production duties, the band laboriously crafted a timeless sounding recording over the dead of winter in Alberta, Canada. The result exploits their usage of harsh, grating dissonance in smaller and controlled doses, using noise as the foundation for richly structured, layered songwriting.

From the opening strains of "Can't You See" it's clear that the album is far more than just a continuation of their debut. Resting upon Matt Flegel's plodding bass line, Patrick Flegel's deadpan vocal delivery, and Chris Reimer on bowed guitars and cello, this moody, nocturnal ballad opens the album on a dark note – one that is quickly countered by "Heat Distraction", a jigsaw of bright guitar phrases and winding time signatures.

This exact balance of delicate and dense is a pervasive thread throughout the album, reflecting the contradiction of the band's environment buried in urban sprawl framed by prairie landscape. Whether twisting through the urgent krautrock of "Locust Valley", an exercise of harmony through simplicity, or climaxing with the bittersweet melody of "Eyesore", the album somehow builds luminous contrast out of a palette of grays.

In places claustrophobic, conjuring walking dreams of sexual anguish and general decay, elsewhere soaring with vintage guitar tones and vocal melodies or collapsing into swirling, mesmerizing swells, "Public Strain" cycles through insomnia, paranoia, resignation and euphoria, to capture a band with an undeniable voice coming into full awareness of their craft.

Josh Homme's Rekords Rekords

Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures Frontman Josh Homme's Rekords Rekords Partners With Dangerbird Records

The following is the unedited press release:

Rekords Rekords exists for one purpose—to make music.

There's no hidden ulterior motive. There's no overbearing corporate machine. There's no middleman. There's no pressure to conform. There's just art, in its purest form. Founded by visionary Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures frontman Joshua Homme, Rekords Rekords remains a creative collective, first and foremost. Since 1997, the label has been a vehicle for Homme to release Desert Sessions and Eagles of Death Metal albums. There's more music rising on Homme's horizon than ever before though. Through a unique partnership with Dangerbird, Rekords Rekords is truly coming to life in 2010, and rock 'n' roll may never be safe again.

Homme describes the label's ethos best. "It's about the creation and releasing of music, period. I wanted to put out releases without being asked any questions. That's why Rekords Rekords started. More than ever, now is a great time to make music for the sake of making music. Single, shmingle, just make a fucking piece of art."

The first piece of art releasing on the label this year is Alain Johannes' solo debut Spark. Eleven co-founder and Queens of the Stone Age cohort Johannes pays tribute to his late wife and creative partner Natasha Shneider with an honest and heartfelt collection of songs. Dropping August 31, this is the label's flagship release via Dangerbird.

"Because Alain plays, produces, records and sings, there's no plumbing between his feelings and what the music sounds like," enthuses Homme. "The rollercoaster of Spark's very fragile beauty is the reason I started playing music. There are some things that can't be explained with words. I like to ask, 'Can someone play it to me instead?' This record is such a great example of what cannot be said but what is so true."

For Homme, each release will offer the listener an experience, and it begins with Spark. He goes on, "Many people listen to records on the way to the bank and that's absolutely fine. However, you should be able to actually hold your breath and swim down deeper into a record until you're absolutely consumed by it. Spark is a record that can whisk you away, and that's such a valuable commodity. I'm thankful when I get an album like that."

The world will be quite thankful for everything that the label has in store. This isn't a new venture for Homme. In fact, the label's very birth was tied to that of Homme's multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Queens of the Stone Age. In 1997, through previous partner Man's Ruin Records, Rekords Rekords released the first Queens of the Stone Age/Kyuss split. With the Dangerbird partnership firmly in place for North America, Homme plans on releasing new offerings from The Desert Sessions and Eagles of Death Metal as well as re-releasing Desert Sessions Vol. 1-10 as a box set. Dangerbird's the perfect collaborator for all of this. Since 2004, the Silverlake indie label has been the home to crucial modern rock acts like Silversun Pickups, Minus the Bear and Sea Wolf.

Homme continues, "I have a true partner in Dangerbird for the U.S. The reason I went there in the first place was because they're about getting things done—'nuff said. There's no reason to wait or belabor the point about releasing records. This is the time to focus on the consistency of your art. Rekords Rekords is really more of a stamp in the hopes to try to be like Wolfman Jack. People listened to Wolfman Jack because they liked his taste but he was playing all different kinds of music. I hope to develop a similar trust with fans of the music. If people like one of our releases, they'll like the next one sight unseen."

Music enthusiasts can trust the label especially with upcoming releases such as Mini Mansions' debut on the way. Fronted by Queens of the Stone Age bassist Mikey "Shoes" Shuman, the Los Angeles rockers elevate psychedelica to new heights. Homme comments, "I gravitate to music that paints a really colorful broad picture. Mini Mansions have these elements of Beach Boys, Pink Floyd and Eliot Smith without humping them at all. Their album evokes this dark and lovely landscape. None of that would matter if there weren't hooks though, and there are!"

Homme's got the freedom to do anything with Rekords Rekords, and he couldn't be more thrilled to release even more forthcoming music under the label's truly independent banner. "We've always done whatever we thought was right, and it's always been a massive bloody fight," reveals Homme. "That feels like misplaced energy. Trying to justify your music doesn't matter. I feel like the real revolution is consistently doing whatever you think is right. That's what this is about."

Homme's certainly doing the right thing with Rekords Rekords—for his immediate collaborators and beyond. He adds, "Rekords Rekords isn't about putting out my friends' rock music. It just so happens that Alain and Mikey made music that really floored me, and they needed their albums to come out without waiting for permission. So there's Rekords Rekords."

There's also a synergy that runs through everything within the label. "I want to be surrounded by inspiring artists," declares Homme. "The only way to do that is to be able to inspire and recognize someone else who is inspiring. I don't care if I make coffee at a session as long as it's a classic and cool session."

In the end, it all comes down to honesty for Joshua Homme and Rekords Rekords. He concludes, "I'd simply like to make something really honest and hopefully that will set us apart from other labels. I don't want to sell out Shea Stadium. I just want the people that are into the music to feel uplifted. I don't think bigger is better. I just think better is better, and that's fine. There's nothing you can do to make people like your art. You just have to be honest and let her rip."

Isn't that the way all revolutions begin?
