Jack White Comments On New Dead Weather and White Stripes Material

"I've got like five things on my plate right now, it's a big plate" - Jack White

Those of you wo've been following along know that Jack White promised fans a new White Stripes and Dead Weather record for 2010. Luckily his recent work with Wanda Jackson (see prior post) hasn't slowed down the progress.

Regarding The Dead Weather, White cheekily told Rolling Stone, “We’ll probably be having a new album by that time, if we’re lucky. We have a lot of songs cooking right now, we’ve been playing a few of them live and I’m sure by March the entire 20 or 25 songs will be onstage by then. We can’t tell you that much about it except that it’s gonna be really expansive, and I use that word loosely in a scientific sense, meaning that I’m just using it to distract you.”

Continuing in his quest to taunt the media with sarcasm he told MTV "It's gonna take as long as it takes ... if it takes three months to do a Dead Weather record, we'll take that long. The White Stripes record is going to be these two guys [Dead Weather bassist Jack Lawrence and guitarist/ keyboardist Dean Fertita] dressed as me and Meg, so we'll see if something interesting comes out of that."

New Sia MP3 and Album News

Sia will release her new album, We Are Born which was produced by Greg Kusrtin, in the early part of 2010. In the meantime she has released a free download of the song "You've Changed."

The Tindersticks released The Hungry Saw last year and toured extensively. Stuart A. Staples and David Boulter have also composed the score for French director Claire Denis' new film. The new Tindersticks album, Falling Down a Mountain will be released February 16, 2010.

Commenting upon the burst of activity, the band said “From nervous beginnings, a new unity and sense of direction grew. Where once our touring days were spent hanging around, killing time, now we found ourselves cobbling together acoustic rehearsals for new ideas in dressing rooms and venue corridors. There was a growing need to make something new and we quickly started working in our studio in France.”

Pantha Du Prince To Release New Album

Electronic artist Pantha Du Prince has signed a deal with Rough Trade. You may have heard some of the prior work released via German label Dial Records. The new album Black Noise will be released Feb 9th, 2010.

Pantha Du Prince has remixed songs for Depeche Mode, Animal Collective, Bloc Party, Phantom/Ghost, The Long Blondes. Black Noise includes special guests: Animal Collective's Noah Lennox sings on “Stick to my side” and Tyler Pope of !!! and LCD Soundsystem plays bass on “The Splendour.” Regarding his music and new record, he says, "Music slumbers in all matter; any sound, even silence, is already music. The mission, then, must be to render audible what is unheard and unheard of: black noise, a frequency that is inaudible to man. Black noise often presages natural disasters, earthquakes or floods; only some animals perceive this “calm before the storm.” Black noise is something archaic and earthy. The music on Black Noise balances precariously on the slippery threshold between art and nature, between techno and folklore, which lends it a certain spectral and intangible aspect."

Rough Trade founder Geoff Travis signed Pantha Du Prince. Commenting upon the decision he said, “When Rough Trade started we were very much involved with the first wave of do it yourself electronica, with Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle amongst our early releases. It is nice to be able to return to the fray with one of the most musically eloquent practitioners in this field, Pantha Du Prince.”

Treadmill Masters OK Go Are At It Again

OK GO TEAMS WITH DESIGNER MORITZ WALDEMEYER AND FENDI

Well folks, "Here It Goes Again." Silly yet genius treadmill dancers OK Go will join with Design Miami/, FENDI and designer Moritz Waldemeyer for a "Design Performance" at Design Miami. This is a fair featuring limited edition designs. The event will be held December 1st through December 5th in the Miami Design District. Waldemeyer has customized Gibson guitars with laser lights and FENDI materials, and OK Go will play them throughout the event.

OK Go vocalist/guitarist Damian Kulash was quoted as saying, "It's such a pleasure to be working with Moritz again. He's one of those rare and wonderful artists who's equally inventive in the domain of minute technological details and broad, open-ended creative ideas. He designed the LED jackets that we wore in our stage show a couple years ago, and it was a perfect match. Our brand of performance - super-saturated, super visual, super fun - is precisely the right arena for his design. We knew right away that we needed to make instruments with him, and ever since we've been looking for the opportunity to realize our dream of playing guitars that are their own light show. We're incredibly excited, and thankful that FENDI and Design Miami/ have made this possible."

The single and video for "WTF?" premiered on the iTunes Music Store this week. The single is the first from OK Go's upcoming album, Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky, produced by ex-Mercury Rev member David Fridmann (Flaming Lips, MGMT). The record will be released January 12, 2010. Those who pre-order the album via iTunes will instantly receive a bonus track, entitled "Back from Katmandu." I hate digital bonus tracks and shake my fist wildly at them. Vinyl and CD damnit!

Here is a blast from the past. It's OK Go on Chic - A - Go Go. I share this with you because it's funny, and because my friend Shana is in the video.

Carole King and James Taylor Announce Troubadour Reunion Tour

James Taylor and Carole King will join together again rekindling their 1970 stage relationship. According to their press agents "The idea for the "Troubadour Reunion" tour came together in 2007 after Taylor and King performed at the famed Los Angeles venue for the first time since 1970 to celebrate the Troubadour's 50th Anniversary. The shows sold out immediately and garnered rave reviews from fans and critics alike. The Los Angeles Times noted "the sense of occasion [and] weight of history in the evening" and Variety said "Taylor and King reminded us about the intensity of song, that the artistically-rich and commercially-viable are not mutually exclusive and how one tiny club continues to be a birthing room for some of this city's most memorable music."

All Ages Night - The Film / Os Mutantes Documentary

Okay, so that's an awkward introduction. But a while ago I ran across a clip from a documentary about Os Mutantes. I couldn't find any further information, so I wrote the film company. The documentary has not been completed or released due to lack of funds. However, the completed project by the same folks is about to rin on cable. Perhaps you can spread the word and it might help them fund the completion of their Os Mutantes film?

A clip from the untitled Os Mutantes Film:

Here is a trailer for the new teen film All Ages Night, featuring Billy Evans, Django Stewart, Katherine Carlsberg, and Elizabeth Nicole. According to the directer it's about "a teenage rock band who believe one night on stage will change their life." It will be running on the STARZ cable channel beginning Jan 2010. It seems like the target age is far under mine, but I'm willing to give it a chance. And the music, though not my taste seems extremely marketable.

"Scanners was the kind of happy accident that makes SXSW such an awesome adventure. Javelin consists of two cousins, Tom Van Buskirk and George Langford. They started making music together in Providence, RI in 2004. A second 12" will be released in the first quarter of 2010 via Thrill Jockey, and a full-length from Luaka Bop shortly thereafter.

Stream "TWYCE" click here

A description of their live shows:
"In performance, Javelin use colorfully painted boomboxes that form large speaker totems (“boombaatas”) which can hang from the ceiling or stack up on the floor like pyramids. The signal from the show is broadcast via FM transmitter, thereby fostering audience participation (B.Y.O.Boombox) or fueling battery-powered, mobile parties. The duo has played venues as diverse as the children’s branch of the Olneyville Public Library (RI), to the Museum of Modern Art (NY), both of which happened in the same week."

Press:
Chicago's Netherfriends allow their songs to define the band, not
their fashion sense or peers. Rare as it may be, Netherfriends are at
the forefront of a new crop of artists focused on great songwriting
and performance. This group is the amalgamation of experimental field
recordings, solid pop melody, and vocal harmonies. Netherfriends make
some of the most likeable music. It's fun, poppy, catchy as all get
out, and smart as a whip.

Mark Mothersbaugh Art Show in Chicago - November

Mark Mothersbaugh’s artwork will be exhibited at David Leonardis Gallery in Chicago next month. The show will include Mark’s limited edition framed prints and his custom nylon rugs, both featuring imagery from his Postcard Diaries archives. The three opening receptions will be held on: November 6th, 13th, and 14th.

There is a slight chance that Mark Mothersbaugh will be able to visit the gallery during the November 13th reception, but we won’t know until the last minute because of DEVO’s unpredictable schedule that day, the same day of their "Freedom Of Choice" concert at The Vic.
