Richard Dreyfuss As Groovy As He Gets / The Film Hello Down There

The groovy underwater band performs pop treats such as the catchy brain bubblegum "Little Goldfish" to the delight of a dolphin. I never get tired of viewing this clip. It's is basically old fashioned retro television cartoon pop music - not actually played by a cartoon band, or on television. The "hits" include "Little Goldfish" and "Glub." The film is cheesy fare from 1969, but I recommend it for young children / family viewing. It's the Disney film that Disney never made. If you grew up in the seventies, you likely saw it on television and it's stuck somewhere in the recesses of your mind.

It stars Tony Randall and Janet Leigh. Randall is an inventor (and father of the featured family) who moves into an underwater home with his family (as human guinea pigs), to prove it's scientific and/or cultural value. There is an added plot twist of an evil greedy meddlers search for underwater gold, and the danger of a hurricane. There is also a side bit wherein the navy radar registers the film's teens jamming in their underwater band and convinces Naval authorities it's some sort of underwater foreign invasion. The kids in the family are in a "rock" band, (who perform sans needed electronics), which includes a young Richard Dreyfuss. They are stuck underwater - will they miss their chance to appear on television? The suspense is, well not too suspenseful, but harmless fun all the same. Jim Backus (Gilligan's Island,Mr. Magoo), Charlotte Rae (Facts Of Life), and Roddy McDowell (Planet Of the Apes), are also featured in this fun, (albeit unrealistic), kitschy romp. Purchase it on DVD before it goes out of print as it was long unavailable.
