Har Mar Superstar To Release New Album and Single Intended For Britney Spears

Har Mar Superstar will release his first full length since 2004’s The Handler. His new album, Dark Touches, is due October 13 via Dilettante Recordings. Har Mar Superstar (a.k.a. Sean Tillmann), holds his sarcastic tongue firmly in cheek as he delivers the “club friendly” material. This record appears to be an attempt to crossover into the pop world. It includes the song "Tall Boy," which was co-written by Greg Kurstin (The Bird and the Bee) and was allegedly originally intended for Britney Spears. (Kurstin has previously produced tracks for Spears, Kylie Minogue, and Lily Allen). The track kept the original lyrics, which, as you can imagine, take on a new color in the hands of Har Mar Superstar. It seems primed and ready for heavy rotation on the Logo channel. (Ya hear that Perez Hilton? You best jump on the bandwagon before it leaves the station, buddy).

Dark Touches also features plenty of special guests including John Fields (Andrew WK, Jonas Brothers, Rooney), Clark Baechle and Jacob Thiele (The Faint), singer-songwriter Adam Green, P.O.S. of the Rhymesayers collective, Neon Neon’s Boom Bip, Flowers of Doom, and Samaire Armstrong. "I Got Next" with lyrics about having women sign contracts to date Har Mar after they leave their current boyfriends, features The Bird and The Bee’s Inara George. Dark Touches also features the reportedly "anthemic" tune "“Girls Night,” which was allegedly intended for use by The Cheetah Girls.

If something was originally intended for a prefab pop tart-let troupe - then perhaps that's the genre wherein it should remain? Can his kitsch loving crowd follow him to the charts? Will he get there? Is he still kidding? Was he kidding to begin with - or did his appearance dictate the songs would receive a humorous reply? Only time, and the release of the full length, will tell, but I knew the first time I saw this guy almost a decade ago, that his shtick had higher aspirations. Tillmann has sitcoms and film scripts in development, and will also appear with Ellen Page (Juno) and Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat in the upcoming film Whip It, directed by Drew Barrymore. Good luck in your endeavors Har Mar, but you've always been a superstar in the eyes of many a blogger.
